Relationship between Emotional Maturity and Parenting Style of Adolescents from Uttrakhand

Abstract
Association between emotional maturity of 320 adolescents and parenting styles was observed in this study. Equal distribution of both genders (160boys and 160 girls) was done. Adolescents within 15 years to 17 years were selected using a simple random sampling technique from rural areas of Uttarkashi and Dehradun districts of Uttrakhand. Self-prepared Demographic questionnaire, Emotional Emotional Maturity Scale developed by (Sabapathy, T. 2017) and Parenting Style Scale developed by Gupta, M. and Mehtani, D. (2017) were used to collect the data. PearsonCorrelation Matrixwas used to find out the association.The present study was conducted in Government Senior Secondary Schools of rural areas of Dehradun. Based on secondary data from the census 2011it was found that the literacy rate of Raipur block from Dehradun and Bhatwari block from Uttarkashi was highest among other blocks. To maintain homogeneity only high literacy rate block (Raipur and Bhatwari) were purposively selected. It was found that adolescents brought up in democratic and uninvolved parenting style were more emotionally mature than those raised under autocratic and permissive parenting styles. Very low self-confidence, acceptance of reality and social adjustment were witnessed among the adolescents raised under an autocratic parenting style.
