Paper Title
AUTOMATIC TRAFFIC LIGHT SYSTEM USING IR SENSORS: A SENSOR-BASED APPROACH FOR INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Abstract
This paper presents the design and evaluation of an Arduino-based automatic traffic light system using IR sensors for real-time vehicle detection and adaptive signal control. By allocating green signals only to occupied lanes, the system reduces unnecessary waiting, idle fuel consumption, and intersection inefficiencies. Experimental results across multiple traffic scenarios show improved responsiveness, high detection accuracy (>95%), and a 35–45% reduction in average vehicle waiting time compared to fixed-time signals. The proposed system is a low-cost, energy-efficient, and scalable solution suitable for small to medium intersections, educational applications, and smart city pilot projects, demonstrating the effectiveness of IR sensor-based traffic automation.
