Effects of Phases of Moon on Adverse Obstetric Outcome

Abstract
Introduction: The moon is related with fertility, pregnancy and delivery as mentioned in different cultures and mythologies. It was noticed by professional obstetricians that there is an increase in care demands on the days when there is full moon and no moon. This study was conducted to prove or disprove common myth which states that obstetric complications like pregnancy induced hypertension, pre-term, intra-uterine death, pre rupture of membranes and abruption were observed more around full moon and no moon day. Objectives: • To find out correlation between full moon and no moon in various obstetric events and its outcome Method: A retrospective study was carried out in Krishna Vishwa Vidhyalay for period of 10 years on dates of no moon and full moon days and 7th day in between them from January 2011 to December 2021. Data was collected retrospectively by already available data in Labor book. Results: It was found that on full moon day there were 502 obstetric complications and on no moon day there were 470 obstetric complications seen from January 2011 to December 2021 whereas there were 500 such obstetric complications seen on 7th day between them. Conclusion: Therefore, in this analysis it was found that phases of moon do affect the obstetric complications as they were found to be increased on these days.
